Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party reach places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
